ASEAN Matters: Hopes for Indonesia’s 2023 Chairmanship

Indonesia has officially assumed the role of 2023 ASEAN Chair, marking the third time for the country, having been chair in 1976, 2003, and 2011.
The ASEAN Chairmanship, which rotates annually based on the alphabetical order of its Member States, comes after Indonesia’s successful G20 Presidency 2022, leading the world’s 20 biggest economies. Due to this success, ASEAN members hope that Indonesia’s leadership can lead to a more stable and prosperous region. Recognising these concerns, the country will adopt the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth” to highlight the importance of the region to global development.
Youth have a vital role as agents of change and to close off the Year of ASEAN Youth this year, Pijar Foundation is organizing the “ASEAN Matters: Hopes for Indonesia’s 2023 Chairmanship” competition.

The competition is in line with our spirit of “collaborative governance” and aims to gather youth leaders’ ideas and hopes for Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, along the key areas of education and talent; energy and climate; food and agriculture; and health.

Submission Details
  • Theme
    The submission should portray what you hope Indonesia will achieve as part of their 2023 Chairmanship or what an ideal ASEAN looks like in 2023.
  • Sub-Topics
    Submissions should be along the lines of one of the four topics: education and talent; energy and climate; food and agriculture; and health.
  • Language
    Both writing and visual submissions should be in English, including the caption of the post when posted on Instagram Feed, its contents, and title.
  • Originality
    Submissions should be original work and never been posted/published on any channel (including on personal blog posts).
Eligibility Requirements
  • ASEAN nationals between 18 - 30 years old
  • Follow @globalfuturex on Instagram
  • Only individual entries
  • Upload your submission (both writing or virtual entries) on Instagram
  • Max. one submissions per category
  • Tag 3 friends and use the #SolveTheFutureNow hashtag
